About Zyon
The word “Zion” in almost every religion means “A Place of Peace.” For me it means “A Person at Peace”. The number “7″ has always been my lucky and favorite number. So with a little letter play Zyon.Seven was created!
When I was twelve years old I got my first set of turntables for my birthday. From that moment I never got a full night of sleep. I enjoyed mixing music and recording the mixes and giving them to family and friends. I got pretty good too. At least everybody told me I was pretty good! (I don’t think they were lying.) Maybe it was all hearsay.
Plus, I continued to write poems with melodies. I guess you can call them songs. (Laugh)
When I made it to college I finally fulfilled my dream. I became a weekend deejay. I got to play whatever I wanted. And on top of that I was playing for the entire campus. I was finally playing music for more than just me and my family. I also wrote a weekly R&B column for the campus newspaper which was well read and respected. But again that was all hearsay (laugh). I continued to write music and thought of becoming a songwriter or a music producer, but dj-ing was NOW in my blood.
After college I worked gigs in clubs from Atlanta to Miami! I also continued dj-ing and playing music by creating a radio station on Live365.com. From there I was approached to start a station on 1.FM. I jumped at the chance to run my very own station, and that was the day “The Urban Adult Choice” was created. That’s where my music can be heard amongst many other Internet stations.
When I mix it, it’s like a “drug” for me. I love Timberland beats! His beats are so f*cking tight, and they hit so hard in most of his songs. Then there’s the old beats from Dr. Dre during his NWA and early Snoop years. Should I even mention that nasty mouth Uncle Luke and the Two Live Crew. Throw in some Teddy Riley and that New Jack Swing. I guess I should mention Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, LA and Babyface. (That Tenderlover remix with Bobby Brown was the shit! Then I like the smooth beats from arist and producers like Kanye, Akon, Missy and Jermaine. I love to use their grooves as a surprise in certain mixes!
And Then maybe I’ll add some DarkChild, Danga, Swizz Beats, or Stargate - Dude, don’t make me go get Lil Jon & Pharrell!
I just love mixing music! I love mixing Janet with Old Michael (when his skin was darker), and Rihanna with Chaka Khan. Then throw in some Ne -Yo, Usher, and some Rick James, Ying Yang and Prince.
Yall, we got us a Party going ON!
